The Ungrateful Tiger

One sunny afternoon, a kind man named Jacky was walking quietly through the big, green forest. He was looking for some dry wood to help make a warm fire at home. Suddenly, he heard a very soft, tiny sound – someone was crying for help! Jacky looked all around, but he couldn't see anyone. The crying sound got a little bit louder and louder, so Jacky, being a brave and helpful person, hurried towards where the sound was coming from.

Jacky was truly surprised when he saw a very big, striped tiger! Oh dear, the huge tiger was stuck inside a strong, cold steel cage. The tiger looked very sad and whispered, 'Oh, kind human, please, please help me get out of this trap! I have been stuck here for a very long time, for a whole week, and now I feel so weak and super, super hungry.'

Jacky felt a little bit scared, worried that the tiger might eat him. But the tiger looked even sadder, and big, shiny tears started to fill its eyes. 'No, no, I promise I won't eat you!' the tiger cried. 'Look at me, I am so very weak; how could I possibly hurt you?' Jacky felt a big wave of pity in his heart and decided he wanted to help the poor animal. So, being very, very careful, and with his hands shaking just a little bit, Jacky slowly opened the heavy door of the cage.

But guess what happened next? The very moment the tiger was free, it made a quick, fast jump right towards Jacky, the kind man who had just helped it! 'Tiger! Why are you doing this?' Jacky shouted, feeling very surprised and a little angry. 'You promised me you wouldn't eat me!' The tiger just growled, 'I am super hungry right now, and I must eat!' It started walking closer and closer to Jacky.

'This is so, so unfair!' Jacky cried out. The tiger just said, 'There is no fair way in the big jungle!' But Jacky quickly thought of an idea. 'I want to find justice!' he said. 'Let's ask three smart living creatures in this jungle. They will be the judges for our case.'

'If all three judges agree that you can eat me, then you can!' Jacky bravely said, trying to gain more time to think and find a way out of his scary situation. The tiger, feeling very confident and sure of itself, nodded its big head and said, 'Okay!' So, the two of them, the man and the tiger, started walking together to find the three wise judges in the forest.

First, they saw a tall, green banana tree standing quietly by the path. Jacky quickly asked, 'Oh, dear banana tree, please help us! Earlier, I set this tiger free from a tricky cage. But now that it's full and strong, it wants to eat me! Is that fair?' The banana tree rustled its leaves and said, 'Of course, it is allowed! Humans don't know how to be thankful either. After I give them all my sweet, yummy fruit, they just cut down my whole body!' The tiger let out a big laugh and started to walk closer to Jacky, ready to pounce. 'Wait!' Jacky quickly said, 'We still have two more judges to meet!'"

Next, they met a big, strong buffalo grazing in a grassy field. Jacky immediately asked, 'Dear buffalo, please tell us, is it right for this tiger to eat me after I bravely freed it from its cage?' The buffalo shook its big head and said, 'Yes, humans surely deserve to be eaten! After I work so very hard helping humans grow food in their fields, in the end, they always kill me and eat my meat!' The tiger let out a low growl and took another step closer to Jacky, looking very hungry. 'Be patient, dear tiger!' Jacky pleaded, quickly moving further away. 'There is still one last judge we must hear from!'"

Jacky felt his heart sink, and he began to lose almost all hope. He really, really hoped that the very last judge would agree with him and save him. Not long after, they met a tiny, bushy-tailed squirrel. 'Oh, wise squirrel!' Jacky said with a worried voice, 'This tiger is not thankful at all! After I set it free from its scary trap, it wanted to eat me! What do you think about this?' The smart squirrel thought quietly for a few moments, then it said, 'Hmm, I cannot make a decision right now. I must first see the exact place where it happened and re-create the whole story.'"

So, Jacky and the big tiger carefully brought the tiny squirrel all the way back to the exact spot where the tiger had been trapped inside the cage. All during the walk, Jacky's heart was beating super fast, thump-thump, thump-thump! 'Oh dear,' he thought sadly to himself, 'If the squirrel says the tiger is right, then my adventure will surely end today.'

When they finally arrived at the special spot, the squirrel immediately said in a very clear voice, 'Tiger, please step inside the cage. I want to see exactly how this whole story began.' The big tiger, not suspecting anything tricky, calmly walked right back into the cage. As soon as the tiger was safely inside, the clever squirrel told Jacky, 'Now, kind human, close the door and lock it tightly, just like it was before you helped the tiger!' Jacky quickly did exactly what the squirrel said.

Once the whole scene was perfectly set up again, just like the beginning, the smart squirrel asked them, 'Was this exactly how the tiger was before the kind human helped it?' Both Jacky and the tiger answered at the same time, 'Yes, wise squirrel! That is exactly how it was!' Then, the squirrel looked at Jacky and said, 'Now, good human, you can go home safely!' Jacky felt so happy and relieved! 'Thank you, thank you, wise squirrel!' he said with a big smile, and then he quickly ran far, far away from the squirrel and the tiger. 'What about me?' the trapped tiger roared, sounding very surprised. The squirrel looked at the tiger and said, 'You deserve to stay right there, tiger. You were not thankful to the kind human who helped you!' The tiger started to cry and begged the squirrel to let it go, but the smart squirrel didn't listen. 'Farewell, tiger,' the squirrel said wisely as it walked away, leaving the ungrateful tiger all alone in the cage.
